The average length of the menstrual cycle is 28 days, the cycle can last from 21 to 40 days and is still considered normal. Menstruation lasts 2 to 7 days. Delayed menstruation can be caused by several reasons - low weight or obesity, stress, medication use, gynecological or endocrine abnormalities.

Delayed menstruation can be physiological or pathological. Physiological occurs in adolescent girls, in healthy women during hormonal changes during pregnancy, during breastfeeding or menopause. Pathological delay of menstruation is caused by gynecological or endocrine diseases. Hormonal imbalance in the body is behind the long-term and frequent delay of menstruation.

A delay of 5 to 7 days is considered normal. The causes of delayed menstruation can be deduced from the number of days of delayed menstruation. If menstruation is 2 days late, the delay is considered normal. Even a delay of 5 days can be normal, but the reason can also be stress or intense physical activity. If the period is 6 days late, it can be a normal condition if the menstrual cycle lasts until the 30th or 31st day. If menstruation is delayed by 7 days, the reason may be stress, intensive training, a change in climatic conditions or pregnancy. A delay of 10 days can be the reason for using or stopping contraception, but also for pregnancy. If your period is 15 days late and your pregnancy test is negative, the reason may be obesity, gynecological (uterine myoma and polyps) or endocrine (hypoactive or hyperactive thyroid) disorders. The reasons for 20 days late menstruation can be overweight, gynecological (ovarian failure) and endocrine disorders. If menstruation is 2 months late, it is due to low weight or obesity, breastfeeding, ovarian dysfunction, puberty, pregnancy or menopause.

As women have said in discussions on the Internet, there can be many reasons for delayed menstruation. A long menstrual cycle, without contraception can allegedly last 50-60 days, polycystic ovary syndrome and a tense psychological situation. Depending on the length of the delay, one must keep a cool head and always first consider whether the reason for the delay could be stress, illness, lifestyle, etc.
