How many months pregnant am I?
Pregnancy itself lasts 40 weeks (10 lunar months), and the first day of the last menstrual period is considered its beginning. Gynecologists calculate the date of birth, the size of the baby, as well as the week of pregnancy a woman is in, based on the lunar calendar. Some moms want to know exactly what week or month they are in right now. This data is important from the point of view of monitoring fetal changes that occur during pregnancy and can be a signal that everything is fine with the baby. Nevertheless, each pregnancy is always specific.
How do I find out what month I am in? Weeks in pregnancy are counted from the mentioned first day of the last menstrual period (calculated with a 28-day menstrual cycle) before conception. If it is based on the lunar calendar, one month has 4 weeks and always 28 days. It is therefore necessary to count the weeks from the first day of the last period. If you want to calculate which month you are in based on the calendar month, the calendar month has from 29 to 31 days. So if you calculate that you are currently in the 26th week, you are in the 6th month of pregnancy.
A great help in determining the month of pregnancy is also the estimated date of birth, which is determined by the gynecologist himself. Here it is necessary to start from the assumption that pregnancy lasts 40 lunar weeks (+/- 2 weeks). It is therefore okay if the baby asks out 2 weeks earlier or later.
Women are also often confused when a gynecologist talks about trimesters. There is no shame in asking him about the division of trimesters - 1st trimester = 1st to 12th week, 2nd trimester = 13th to 27th week, 3rd trimester = 28th to 40th week.
