How to have an abortion without a doctor?

There is no such thing as a safe abortion without the assistance of a doctor, and under no circumstances do we recommend that a woman attempt to terminate a pregnancy on her own at home. Unwanted pregnancy, and only in the case when the woman has considered all forms of help, can be terminated in a safe and legal way within a certain period. Otherwise, performing an abortion can be considered a criminal offense with the consequence of death. First of all, a woman should turn to her partner, loved ones, family or friends. If the situation does not allow it, it is possible to visit a doctor and discuss all alternatives, women in this situation can also use free psychological services.

Due to the fact that in Slovakia there is no pharmacological form of artificial abortion with the help of an abortion pill, there is only the possibility of surgical termination of pregnancy. This procedure lasts several tens of minutes, and together with observation in the hospital after the procedure, the time is extended to a total of 2 to 3 hours. It is possible to terminate the pregnancy if the duration has not exceeded 12 weeks (24 weeks if a genetic disorder of the fetus is proven). By law, it is possible to terminate a pregnancy if the health of the woman or the development of the fetus is at risk. A girl and her legal representative can request an abortion if she has not reached the age of 16.

A woman can avoid an unwanted pregnancy primarily through contraception in the form of various forms of protection. If a woman is concerned about possible pregnancy after unprotected sexual intercourse, it is possible to use emergency contraception in the form of a pill after intercourse. However, the effectiveness is not 100 percent and depends on the phase of the cycle. It is important that such a pill be taken within a maximum of 72 hours after unprotected sexual intercourse. An accompanying symptom of the action of this pill is vaginal bleeding lasting 5 to 14 days.

In no case should a woman follow instructions or instructions that talk about an overdose of drugs, alcohol or physical injury that will cause termination of pregnancy. Such an action is against the law and at the same time threatens the life of the woman herself. In the event that an abortion is not possible, there is the possibility of anonymous birth, rescue centers or a form of adoption. It is always necessary to approach this issue very sensitively.
