Constipation may be the reason why the child cannot poop, but the fact that the child does not poop does not mean that it is constipated. Complicated? Every child is different and this also applies to stool frequency. Formula-fed babies usually poop once or more (3-4) a day, breastfed babies poop more often. However, some children poop every day, once every few days or once a week.

If the reason why the child does not poop is constipation, he will have small dry poops that will be difficult to get out of the body. He will strain when pooping, his stomach will hurt. Constipation is mostly suffered by children on artificial milk, it rarely occurs in breastfed babies, as breast milk is easily digestible. The problem can arise e.g. when changing from breast milk to formula or when changing the type of formula. In the first case, it may take a few days for the child to get used to artificial milk, in the second case, it is necessary to change the type of milk, or to check whether you are preparing it correctly. The cause of constipation can also be dehydration of the child and a mild virus.

There are several ways to relieve a child who cannot poop. In addition to the traditional ones, such as a rectal tube or a thermometer to induce stool, laxatives, a glycerin suppository or drugs to reduce the surface tension in the intestine, you can choose massage , exercise or a warm bath.

Try to exercise the baby with its legs - with circular movements from the center outwards, gently press the bent legs to the tummy. A clockwise abdominal massage several times a day can also help. You can use cold-pressed oil for massaging.

Bowel movements can be supported by a warm bath. After that, rub the baby's tummy with pain relief cream. You can also try a heating pillow - place the child on it on their stomach. The heat should relieve his pain and "stir up his bowels." If you have a fitness ball at home, try exercising on it with your baby. Carrying in a scarf, in which the baby's tummy is slightly pressed, can also help.

Bowel emptying becomes easier with the introduction of solid foods, non-dairy vegetable and meat-vegetable solid foods and fruit juices can be very helpful for pooping problems. Mothers recommend adding olive oil to vegetable side dishes, thanks to which the child can poop better. Water, which dilutes the supplements, can also help.
