Elevated temperature in pregnancy means that the body temperature has exceeded the value of 37 °C (max. 37.9 °C). If the body temperature rises above 38 °C, we can talk about a fever and it is necessary to reduce the temperature effectively. In pregnancy, certain specifics must be observed in connection with fever and elevated temperature. Temperature or fever is the body's natural reaction to the occurrence of inflammatory processes occurring in the body. It is basically a reaction of the thermoregulatory mechanism. During pregnancy, fever can appear due to the occurrence of infections, inflammations (digestive and urinary systems), angina or flu. This is how the body reacts and defends itself, and such a response is basically a positive signal. How to lower the temperature during pregnancy?

High body temperature during pregnancy does not pose a risk for the future mother, but also for the fetus itself, as it can lead to problems with the nutrition of the fetus. At the same time, an acute fever poses a higher risk than a longer-term elevated body temperature. If the temperature is raised slightly, it is usually the occurrence of less risky respiratory diseases, in the case of fever, it can be more serious inflammatory diseases. The most important thing is to consult your doctor for any such increase in fever.

Conservative or medical treatment can be used to treat fever. Especially in the first trimester, the use of medication is not recommended due to the increased sensitivity of the fetus and the female organism. During this period, the symptoms of pregnancy are also the most intense. In some cases, the increased temperature in the first trimester is the body's reaction to hormonal changes. Even women often state in discussions that a temperature of up to 37.5 °C can be considered normal during pregnancy. In the second and third trimester, the use of effective drugs is appropriate, because the fetus is not so sensitive.

Despite the fact that there are doctors and experts who do not recommend the use of anti-temperature medicines during pregnancy, long-term research shows that the use of anti-temperature medicines containing paracetamol does not harm the fetus in any way. Preparations containing paracetamol are usually recommended for pregnant women and for severe headaches and migraines. A pregnant woman should not take such preparations for longer than one week. It is necessary to consult a doctor about the dosage. At a temperature above 39°, antipyretic treatment with the help of effective medicine should be started immediately. Suitable medicines for reducing temperature during pregnancy are Acylpirin, Panadol, Paralen, Ibalgin, Brufen, Mig 400 or Aspirin. Most of the listed drugs are over-the-counter and do not require a prescription.

As part of the conservative treatment of elevated temperature, it is recommended to maximize the drinking regime. Ideally clean water, but ginger tea is also suitable. However, dried rather than fresh ginger is recommended. Among the teas, you can supplement your drinking regimen with chamomile or chamomile tea. Rest and peace in bed are a matter of course. One of the options for home treatment is a lukewarm shower. Cold baths or showers are not recommended during pregnancy. Cold compresses will also help in the fight against increased temperature. If the temperature rises above 38 °C and it cannot be brought down by conservative methods, it is best to visit your doctor or consult about the course of treatment.
