Children and pills - this is the problem of many mothers. A sick child does not want the pill, cries and refuses to swallow the medicine. Sometimes the reason is the size, sometimes the taste, sometimes the child simply rejects everything new. Some diseases require the use of medicines, therefore it is essential that the child learns to take medicine voluntarily. It is not easy, but there are several ways to teach a child to swallow a pill.

One way is to show him how to swallow the pill - open your mouth, stick out your tongue, put the pill on it, closer to the throat, not on the tip (of course, not the actual medicine, which you don't need, but for example a nutritional supplement), and drink I sip water. Let the child try it first without the pill, then try it with a small piece of vegetable or fruit and gradually increase the size until it is close to the size of the pill the child is supposed to take.

You can try to rationally explain to the child why swallowing the pill is important, that it will help him recover from the disease. He should understand that even if the medicine tastes bad, it will help him get rid of the germs and he will be able to play outside with his friends again, which he cannot now because of the disease. If necessary, you can slightly raise your voice and refer to the doctor's instructions. Some children find it helpful to remind them of what they've already accomplished (learning to tie their shoelaces, ride a bike, etc.) and this is just another step toward showing what they can do.

Some pills do not need to be consumed whole and on an empty stomach, so you can divide them into parts and put them in food, for example. They are suitable for this, e.g. pudding, roll, nutrition. It can be helpful to drink the pill with a straw, which distracts the child and allows him to create a pull to swallow the medicine more easily.

According to some mothers, a bribe could help, of course, it is not a long-term solution, but if necessary, it can work if the child receives a sweet reward. The form of the game could also be useful, you can play the doctor and the child the patient. Some tablets can be crushed (check the package leaflet to see if this is appropriate) and dissolved in a teaspoon of water, making their consumption easier.
