The safest procedure is gradual thawing in the refrigerator. So you take the milk in a container or bag out of the freezer and put it in the refrigerator. The thawing process should take 12 to 24 hours. The second proven option is to thaw breast milk under running warm water or in a water bath with a maximum temperature of 37 °C . Today, it is also possible to purchase electric breast milk heaters with a defrosting function. After thawing, milk can be stored in the refrigerator for a maximum of 24 hours. Re-freezing is not suitable. The consistency, taste and smell of milk may be different after thawing. It is the action of enzymes. However, its nutritional value does not change significantly.

Defrosting in the refrigerator is also recommended by mothers in discussions. Some thawed it at room temperature, but that didn't work, or in a water bath. You don't have to worry if the milk smells a little after thawing, the reason is the fats it contains.
