Is it okay if a 2-year-old doesn't talk?

Each child's speech develops individually . One can already ask curious questions and utter elaborate sentences at the age of 2, while another at this age looks at the world silently and just watches what is happening around him.

Already at the age of a few months, the child makes guttural sounds, which later turn into the first attempts at words. An approximately six-month-old child should be able to repeat syllables (ma-ma, ta-ta, pa-pa), at 10 months he should already be able to imitate animals and name his parents, at 1 year he should be able to say simple sentences (two words giving meaning). By the end of the 1st year, the child goes through the preparatory phase of speech development, usually does not use words, exercises the articulatory organs, after the first year the first words and sentences appear. By 1.5 years, he usually already knows 50+ words and has his baby jargon to name things. At the age of 2, the child should already be able to give grammatical forms to words and be able to form short sentences.

If the child does not communicate after the 2nd year of life (does not express his needs, feelings, does not ask for help or repetition of some activity), it may be a delayed development of speech , prolonged physiological speechlessness. However, only if the child has no other problems , i.e. he can hear, the speech organs are not impaired, he does not have impaired vision, delayed mental development and is sufficiently stimulated by the environment to develop speech. The fact that the child is silent or does not communicate according to the charts is not necessarily a problem. Pay attention to whether the little one uses understandable words, possibly pseudo-words and forms two-word combinations. Non-verbal communication is also important - crying, facial expressions, gestures. Sometimes the child understands everything you say to him, he just doesn't want to talk. If he does not speak within 3 years, it is necessary to contact a specialist.

Children whose parents talk to them from birth (or even in the womb) start talking earlier. It is recommended to talk to them in the language of adults, not to use diminutives or interjections. You develop your baby's intellect by talking, singing or playing nursery rhyme games.
