Is wellness stay safe during pregnancy?
Caution in pregnancy is in order. Many mothers give up many favorite activities during pregnancy. Sometimes justifiably, other times completely unnecessary due to excessive caution. How about wellness stays during pregnancy? Are wellness stays suitable for pregnant women? Can a pregnant woman go to the sauna?
The term wellness stay is very broad, because the wellness itself includes several procedures. Among them is, for example, a sauna. Sauna during pregnancy is possible, but it is not suitable for women who did not visit the sauna before pregnancy. It is also not suitable for women with a high-risk pregnancy, if the woman has pressure problems, cardiovascular diseases or has symptoms of the disease. If a woman decides to go to the sauna, it is ideal to choose a bio sauna, where the temperature reaches a maximum of 60 °C. It is also possible to use other types of saunas, but never go to the sauna alone. The stay in the sauna should not exceed 15 to 20 minutes in total, while one sauna cycle should last a maximum of 10 minutes. Avoid sudden cooling after the sauna. Bathe in the air or just in lukewarm water. Sudden temperature changes are not desirable. Have a source of fluids at hand during the sauna and follow the drinking regime.
Some experts do not recommend the sauna due to insufficient hygiene and high temperature, which can cause the uterus to overheat during a longer stay. However, research has never confirmed overheating of the fetus in the womb. A woman's body temperature should never exceed 39 °C. Consult your doctor before staying in the sauna. However, sauna provides many health benefits to a woman and is also a suitable place to relax.
A pregnant woman's stay in a hot tub does not pose a risk if the water does not exceed a temperature of more than 38 °C. It is better to prefer hot tubs and pools that you have on private property. Despite strict hygiene principles in wellness facilities, warm water, as well as stagnant water (lakes, water reservoirs) are a possible source of yeast infections and bacteria. Also avoid hot thermal springs. During pregnancy, swimming in standard pools with a water temperature of 26 to 31 °C (swimming pools) is the perfect activity. In the water, you protect your joints while engaging a wide range of muscles. As part of a wellness stay, it is advisable to treat yourself to a quality foot, neck or hand massage. Massages are not recommended in the first weeks of pregnancy, when the symptoms of pregnancy are relatively intense.
Can you go on a wellness stay if you are pregnant? Yes, but avoid hot water in hot tubs or thermal water in pools. Treat yourself to a short stay in the sauna (if you have already taken a sauna before pregnancy) and swim in the swimming pool with a water temperature of 31 °C. Mainly use the relaxation zones for massages, pedicures, manicures and beauty treatments. Also, watch out for the risk of falling. These can have fatal consequences. Slides and jumping into the water are also unsuitable. Several women say in the discussions that they denied themselves wellness during pregnancy because of concerns and yeast infections. Many gynecologists consider such activities risky. Several women recommend visiting a classic swimming pool.
