How contractions hurt is very difficult to characterize or describe to expectant mothers. In practice, every woman can have different experiences with contractions - labor pains. At the same time, every woman has a different pain threshold. Some women can suffer from false contractions. By their nature, however, they are painless and are more likely to be manifested by discomfort and tension in the abdomen. If it is true contractions, it is necessary to prepare for pain of a different nature and especially to realize that true contractions are a sign of childbirth.

Contractions as such are muscle contractions of the uterus. Uterine contractions are essentially muscle spasms that a woman can feel, for example, when her abdomen hardens or when she exerts herself during pregnancy. How to recognize contractions? True labor contractions arise due to the release of the hormone - oxytocin. Real contractions are more intense with increasing frequency and also pain. They lead to the opening of the cervix and open the birth canal. The pain is felt in the entire lower abdomen. The interval between contractions gradually shortens and pain increases.

The pain of contractions before childbirth cannot be compared to standard pain, which could be classified as common pain. Most women agree that they would compare contractions to strong menstrual pain. The pain is more intense and shoots towards the pelvis and spine. The pains come in waves and after the onset gradually subside until the beginning of the interval of the next contraction. The closer to childbirth, the more pains are multiplied. If it is necessary to induce labor, some women are given oxytocin artificially. In that case, according to the women's description, the contractions are many times more painful.

Experts also talk about the so-called retrograde amnesia, in which women experience this type of pain less intensely at the moment of childbirth and do not think about the pain as much. There are frequent cases when a woman's psyche does not allow her to fall into such a stage, and the experience of pain with full consciousness is consequently very intense and even traumatic.

Discussing mothers describe the pain of contractions during childbirth as very intense and dull. It is also often referred to as very strong menstrual cramps. Very often they also point to the fact that the pain shoots intensely into the back, which multiplies the feeling of discomfort. Other women perceived contractions as strong bursts of pressure, which gradually intensified as the interval between contractions shortened. They attribute the main credit to how to manage contractions to breathing and psychology.
