When can a child sit in the front of the car?

Based on the available statistics, it is known that the front seat, and especially the passenger seat, is the most dangerous in terms of the severity of traffic accidents. A child can sit in the front of the car if certain safety and legislative regulations are followed.

The rear seats, which are statistically the safest, should preferably be used for transporting children. Seating of children in the front is therefore recommended only if it is necessary. A child can be seated in the front passenger seat only if a restraint device is used (car seat, booster seat, egg) and is fastened with safety belts. The restraining device must be used for children whose body height does not reach at least 150 cm. The law does not limit the seating of children in the front by the age of the child.

If the child is less than 150 cm, sitting in a child car seat or anchoring and sitting on a booster seat is necessary. For small babies, it is recommended to use an egg during transport, while they are anchored in the opposite direction of travel. If the egg is anchored in the opposite direction of travel, it is necessary to deactivate the passenger airbag . As long as the egg, car seat or booster seat are installed in the direction of travel, the airbag remains active. In the case of transporting children in a car seat facing the direction of travel, it is advisable to move the passenger seat as far back as possible. The egg is recommended to be used at least until 15-18 months of age. Subsequently, it is advisable to switch to sitting in a car seat. The booster seat is suitable for use by children whose height reaches at least 125 cm. However, we recommend using cushions with a spine support. A child taller than 150 cm can sit on the front seats in the car, but must be properly fastened with a seat belt.
