The human body functions optimally at a body temperature of around 37 °C. The ideal body temperature for adults is different from that of small children, even the "normal" body temperature varies from person to person. The body temperature of newborns and babies is slightly higher than that of older children and adults. The temperature in children varies not only depending on the age, the time of measuring the body temperature, but also the level of activity. Fluctuations in body temperature are normal for babies, they can vary even by a few tenths of a degree.

Values in the range of 36-37 °C are considered normal temperature, elevated temperature is in the range of 37.1-37.9 °C, in the range of 38-39 °C it is a fever and values above 39.1 °C are considered very high temperature. In babies, it is necessary to distinguish whether the temperature is measured in the anus, with a touch thermometer or in the armpit. In children under 1 year, when measuring the temperature in the anus (or in the ear or mouth) , 0.5 to 0.7 °C should be deducted from the resulting temperature. Measurement with a touch thermometer may not be completely accurate, and small children do not always tolerate measurement in the armpit well, so the results may also be slightly distorted.

If the baby's rectal temperature falls below 35 °C, it is hypothermia. A low temperature, like a high temperature, is very dangerous. For children younger than 3 months, we recommend that you seek medical attention immediately if you measure an elevated temperature and fever, for older children, there is no need to panic if the temperature is elevated. It is not necessary to give them medicine, it is necessary to give fluids and let the child rest.
