When is the baby full term?

Full-term babies are those whose birth took place after the end of the 37th gestational week of pregnancy. The gestational age itself defines the age of the fetus that it reached in the womb. The gestational age is calculated from the first day when the woman's period ended and the pregnancy was subsequently confirmed. Those from the 37th to the 40th week of pregnancy are considered full-term babies. A normal pregnancy should therefore last 280 days. However, there are only 4% of women who give birth to a child on the expected date . It is calculated with a deviation of approximately two weeks. A pregnancy that lasts more than 42 weeks is referred to as post-term, or it's about transferring. In such a case, labor is induced.

If the baby in the womb reaches a gestational age of 37 weeks, the organs should be fully developed . The child in the womb will then wake up for approximately another 2 to 3 weeks . During this period, the immune system is still developing and hair growth can occur . Most of the time, the baby sleeps in the tummy, which is true for most of the third trimester. By the 36th week, the child also finds a stable birthing position, which the doctor checks to ensure a smooth progress during the vaginal birth.

It is important for a woman to be mentally prepared for childbirth , to undergo regular examinations. The onset of false contractions, sleep problems, swelling of the legs, the mucous plug can loosen and the amniotic fluid can gradually flow. Children born before the 37th week are considered premature.
