When is the least chance of getting pregnant?
Naturally, the least chance of pregnancy is if the partners take steps to prevent pregnancy. This means that they use a certain form of protection before conception occurs - the fertilization of a woman's egg by a man's sperm (sex with protection, contraception, etc.). On the contrary, if the aim of the partners is to produce a child, it is advisable to practice sexual intercourse during the time of the woman's fertile days - ovulation. At this stage, women are most fertile, it is roughly the 12th-14th day of the menstrual cycle.
Partners often fail to conceive a child, among other reasons, also because they have sexual intercourse in a phase of the menstrual cycle when the chance of a woman becoming pregnant is the smallest. A woman who wants to get pregnant with her partner should therefore monitor the phases of her cycle and should be able to evaluate whether the fertile days are approaching. It is therefore ideal to keep a menstrual calendar, and ovulation tests that a woman can have at home to check whether fertile days are approaching can also be helpful.
The smallest chance of getting pregnant within the menstrual cycle is on the 17th to 28th day of the period and also on the 1st to 7th day of the menstrual cycle. So it is the first and last phase of the cycle. Shortly after menstruation and also in the post-ovulatory phase, there is a lower but still present chance of pregnancy, also considering the fact that after unprotected sexual intercourse, a man's sperm can survive for 48 to 72 hours. According to some research, sperm can survive in a woman's body for up to 7 days. Even if intercourse took place, for example, on the 9th day of the cycle, fertilization can also occur on the 12th day of the cycle, when the ovulation phase has begun.
