Pregnancy is counted from the first day of the last menstrual period. This is important for determining the due date and also the gestational week of pregnancy. The point is that after fertilization, the egg itself is implanted. Definitive nesting of the egg after fertilization occurs approximately on the 13th to 14th day. It is then possible that the pregnancy test detects increased production of the hCG hormone. However, if you go to a gynecologist during this period, it is highly likely that they will not be able to confirm your pregnancy with an ultrasound. Until about the 5th tt, pregnancy can usually be confirmed only by blood sampling.

It does not make sense to do an ultrasound examination immediately after a woman finds out that she is pregnant with a pregnancy test. Rarely, an ultrasound revealed a pregnancy already around the 5th week. It is recommended to call the doctor and inform him about the positive pregnancy test. It is possible that you will visit the doctor's office a few weeks later, when an ultrasound examination will make sense for you. Going to the gynecologist is recommended around the 8th to 10th week, when the fetus (or fetuses) should be clearly visible. The pregnancy screening itself will allow the identification of the CRL - Crown-Rump-Length fetus size and verify the vitality of the pregnancy. It is the first-trimester examination between the 8th and 10th week that clearly determines the length of the pregnancy and it will even be possible to determine/adjust the estimated date of birth. Possible risks that a pregnant woman could face are also identified.

An earlier visit is recommended for women who think they are pregnant and have accompanying medical complications or diagnoses that may complicate the pregnancy. At each visit, the doctor subsequently sets the date of the next control visit - consultation.

According to their own experience, many women rushed to see a doctor, while it was not possible to confirm the pregnancy with an ultrasound. Therefore, many women advise expectant mothers not to rush the visit, rather to inform the doctor in advance and agree on a visit from at least the 6th week of pregnancy. Some women opt for an earlier visit to rule out an ectopic pregnancy or other complication.
