Who determines the sex of the child?
The gender of the child will be determined by a gynecologist based on an ultrasound examination. Such an examination can be performed around the 11th-12th week of pregnancy, when the direction of the genital tubercle is determined. At this stage of pregnancy, the fetus has not yet developed sexual organs. Therefore, the accuracy of determination is at the level of 95%. More precisely, the doctor determines the gender during the examination of a pregnant woman around the 16th-18th week of pregnancy, when it is possible to determine with 100% whether it will be a boy or a girl.
If the future parents are too impatient, the sex of the child can be determined from the 10th week, by taking a blood sample. Determining the gender of a baby from blood is 99% accurate. One of the less frequent procedures used in today's medicine is the collection of amniotic fluid. It is about the so-called amniocentesis, an invasive examination that determines gender and also determines the risk of possible occurrence of genetic-hereditary diseases. It can be performed from the 11th week of pregnancy. The result after this collection is usually received by the woman within two to three weeks.
The least relevant test that women can use is a urine test available in pharmacies, which resembles a pregnancy test. It can be done in the comfort of your home. However, its reliability is only at the level of 90%.
When it comes to what determines the gender of a child at birth, the answer is relatively complicated. From a genetic point of view, a man's sperm have an influence on whether a girl or a boy will be born to the parents. A man's dominant sperm can contain either the X (girl) or Y (boy) chromosome. This theory is based on the assumption that the fastest sperm fertilizes the egg and thus determines its further development, i.e. gender. According to recent research, the sperm nucleus may contain a larger proportion of the X or Y chromosome. If the nucleus is smaller, it is more likely that the Y chromosome (boy) is more dominant. At the same time, however, it is not possible to refute the female factor. A woman's genitals can influence to a certain extent which "fastest" sperm they will attract and fertilize the egg.
